During World War II, the Belgium Government-in-Exile in London produced eight Sheetlets of one Congo stamp each. The Scott numbers of the basic stamps are 193, 194, 197, 200, 211, 214, 217 and 219. In 1950, the few remaining undistributed Sheetlets were overprinted and surcharged in honour of the Universal Postal Union. These "UPU Sheetlets" were sold by the Belgian Committee for Cultural Works to raise funds.
